Third-wave coffee is a thing in Berlin – and when something’s a thing in this city, you can almost always be sure that it started in one of its hippest neighbourhoods, Kreuzberg. We’ve made a list of our favourite five in the neighbourhood, so wake up, go outside and smell the coffee beans of these cool establishments serving up high-end blends of caffeinated concoctions.

Kreuzberg

Five Elephant brings home beans sourced from all around the world. Their passionate approach is also socially and environmentally responsible, priding themselves on small batch, quality roasting and human relationships. Their micro-roastery, bakery and cafe in Berlin also serves apple pie and cheesecake with stellar reviews.

Bonanza Coffee

Coffee-lovers are bonkers about Bonanza

Bonanza is no secret to coffee lovers in Berlin. These people are passionate about making coffee, and their approach combines the best of both old and new techniques in a process they refer to as ‘retro innovation’. The recently opened, dangerously hip Kreuzberg Roastery and coffee room is in a beautiful red brick building with a courtyard. Customers can sip on a perfect cup while the roasting process and impressive machines add an interesting atmosphere behind the counter.

Café Luzia

Located on the busting Oraienstraße, you can expect an eclectic, international crowd at Luzia. This spacious lounge-like cafe and bar has a beautiful interior of exposed brickwork, light installations, high ceilings and cute shrunken armchair seating. The prices are fair and the music is good. They also enjoy throwing a good party from time to time.
