Flea Markets and Thrift Stores in Berlin

This neat little flea market on the church square is full of jewels and gems, including vintage furniture, beautiful carpets, books, records, toys and second hand clothes and shoes. Its layout offers shoppers enough space to wander comfortably through the stalls, unlike a lot of the other jammed-packed markets in Berlin. Located right next to the newly renovated Marheineke Markthalle on Marheinekeplatz, this is a bargain hunter’s dream, open every Saturday from 10 am -4 pm and on Sundays from 11 am – 5pm.

This thrift market set on the pretty banks of a canal draws Kreuzberg’s creative, cool market-goers on the hunt for some genuine bargains. It’s almost like people having their own little garage sale, set on a stall instead of the backyard. Find lots of secondhand clothes for just a few euros, up to more hand-crafted unique leather wares and jewellery going for higher prices. There are also a few food stands to give you the fuel you need for rigorous browsing. The market is in the same location as the popular Turkish market, and takes place on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, from April.

Probably Berlin’s most iconic and best known flea market, an all round Sunday fun day in the city. The park becomes more like a weekly festival, attracting thousands of people to sample international cuisine at the food market and shop around for quality, hand made crafts, junk, clothes and furniture. The price of goods range from very expensive objects to the very cheap. Added attractions are the plethora of street musicians and performers who put on some great shows. The flea market opens its stalls every Sunday from 8am-6pm and is closed during winter.

This has often been dubbed the ‘original Berlin flea market’ in thrift circles, perhaps since it has been happening near the Tiergarten S-Bahn station every weekend since 1973. Its lovely position around the Charlottenburger Tor also makes it an attractive location for artists and other professional antiques dealers to show off their best pieces. The market runs every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 5 pm.

This is Friedrichshain’s charming little market set on the popular Boxhagener Platz. The area is deemed one of the most beautiful in Berlin, and since the market takes place every Sunday from 10am to 6pm, you can take a lovely Sunday stroll with the added bonus of scoring anything from a great book, scarf, or collectors figurine, to a new lamp to take home. There are also loads of great cafés around the square where you can watch the hustle and bustle of Berlin bargain hunting.

For the more distinguished thrifter, this flea market offers a fascinating shopping experience that focuses exclusively on antiques and rarities, spanning anything from vintage furniture to books, stamps, coins and LPs. This old market also comes with its own unique history, where women used to sell their wares under the old linden trees as far back as a hundred years. Today it’s a hotspot for family outings, since the flea market lies next to an amazing playground. It takes place every Sunday from 9am until 5pm in Mitte, the centre of Berlin.

This is the city’s biggest indoor flea market, taking place on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 6pm in Berlin-Treptow. You can find almost anything here, from artworks to toys to random bits and bobs, so come prepared to dig and haggle.
