Loose Park has long, green expanses and a beautiful lake. Visitors to the park can play tennis on the tennis courts, walk along the paved trails, or fly a kite over the park’s wide field. The park often hosts weddings, parties, picnics, and community events such as drum circles on Monday nights, and is said to be the site where a Confederate general commanded his forces in the Civil War’s Battle of Westport – they honor this heritage with a cannon and Civil War markers. Penn Valley Park, overlooking the downtown areas of Kansas City, is where visitors can get the best views in the city. The expansive park is home to several famous memorials and statues, such as the statue ‘The Scout’. Lowenstein Park is a large expanse of green in the Lee’s Summit suburb of Kansas City donated by the Lowenstein Brothers. The park’s 18 acres create the perfect conditions for running and playing frisbee. Visitors to the park can enjoy a picnic on the picnic tables at the park, or walk along the beautiful trails. Children can play in the playground areas, or shoot hoops at the basketball park. The prettiest part of the park is the Children’s Memorial Butterfly Garden.

Right outside the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art sits Sculpture Park, a 22-acre expanse that’s a popular recreational spot in Kansas City. Sculpture Park is known for its famous giant shuttlecock sculptures that rest on the lawn. In addition to the shuttlecocks, Sculpture Park features several other sculptures and also has several beautiful gardens that visitors can browse through. Visitors can fly a kite over the grass, relax and look at sculptures, or walk along the trails. For jogging and a fountain, visitors can cross the street to get to Theis Park.
