The Profetica Casa de la Lectura (House of Reading) was a colonial gem in a state of almost complete ruin until it was rescued and renovated by architect Gonzalo Goméz Palacio. Now it’s considered one of the most impressive bookstores in the city. You’ll find an expansive range of books, a courtyard with ferry lights and exposed brick, and a cafe with numerous treats. The Casa also hosts author readings, book signings, and other literary events.

For the past fifty years, Librería Leon has invited readers to discover and interact with the books on their shelves. The store hosts book presentations, book festivals, and author readings and signings on a regular basis. Visitors can find many textbooks and instruction manuals, as well as popular literature and non-fiction like self-help, science, sports, entertainment, and nature books.

From major publishing houses to university presses, this shop has you covered. This bookstore has a more selective collection, containing only books published by Trillas publishing house. They also boast one of the best locations in town, right off of the main zocalo, on a cafe-lined street amidst numerous restaurants and shops and gardens. It’s a convenient stop for visitors staying in the center of town, and offers a pause from the hustle and bustle.

A cozy location to cuddle up with a coffee and favorite page-turner, Libros & Libros has been in business for over 15 years in downtown Puebla. You’ll know you’re in good company when you spot their motto, “You are what you read.” The shop has a few sturdy tables for serious pursuits as well as comfy leather chairs to curl up in.
