This selection of boutique and luxury hotels enable you to do just that, with views of the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Élysées and Arc de Triomphe, the École Militaire and Dôme des Invalides all on offer depending on where you stay in Europe’s great City of Light.

A contemporary hotel inspired by 18th-century Parisian salons, Hotel La Comtesse is a four-star hotel close to the Eiffel Tower in the 7th arrondissement. There’s a selection of clean and brightly decorated rooms to choose from and the views are some of the best in Paris; from your balcony are able to see the Eiffel Tower, the Dôme des Invalides and the École Militaire.

A top pick among Paris city-centre hotels, Les Bains is a boutique five-star hotel with an urban design aesthetic featuring precious woods, white marble and bespoke furnishings. It boasts a spa and communal patio, plus the Roxo bar and restaurant run by Brazilian-born chef Bruno Grossi, with an eclectic and reasonably priced carte menu. Le Résovoir is a 15m-high (49ft) tower, accessible via a door in the hotel, which used to supply the water for the spa and can now be booked as a dining spot for 10, beneath a hanging sculpture by German media artist and designer Joachim Sauter. The rooms have traditional floor-to-ceiling windows with fully opening French doors, like those in the movies.

Named after the poet Théodore de Banville, this an elegant and art deco-inspired hotel designed by architect Jérôme Bellat near the Arc de Triomphe, Palais des Congrès and Espace Champerret. The rooms are varied in decor, some with light colours and floral patterns while others have bright, statement walls. Many have windows with Eiffel Tower views and the rooftop suite has a furnished balcony and large skylight windows.

On the Left Bank in the Invalides district, Jardins d’ Eiffel is just a short stroll from the Eiffel Tower, Champ de Mars, the Seine and the Champs-Élysées. You’ve elegant design, a relaxed atmosphere and the majority of rooms have balconies or terraces overlooking the interior garden. The most privileged rooms offer a view of the Eiffel Tower from their balconies, just be sure to book in advance.

Within the 8th arrondissement, an upper-crust neighbourhood known as the Golden Triangle for its fashion houses and boutiques, Hôtel de Sers has featured in films and it’s not hard to see why, with its mix of classic elegance and strident modernist design. It is named after the Marquis de Sers, a country gentleman who in 1880 commissioned the four-storey mansion just off the Champs-Élysées as his Parisian second home. The Champs-Élysées Suite is recommended, offering great views of the area from its balcony.

In the 17th arrondissement, this four-star hotel with a balcony in Paris is just a short walk from the Arc de Triomphe. Le Tsuba is a hotel of sophisticated minimalism behind a facade built in 1926, named after Japanese tsuba samurai sword mountings which inspire the clean lines of its design. There is a lounge, bar and spa and the option to book top floor rooms where you can enjoy views of either the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe.

In 2010, the Shangri-La Paris opened in the 16th arrondissement and has since become a tourist attraction in itself. The former home of Prince Roland Bonaparte has been restored to a fine level of Parisian opulence, which combines well with the brand’s reputation for traditional Asian hospitality. The Terrace Eiffel View Rooms are the hotel’s most requested and are luxurious and spacious, with walk-in-wardrobes and a private terrace with exceptional views of the Eiffel Tower.

Only in Paris would a former 1970s postal sorting centre be given a makeover by Philippe Starck to transform it into a modernist hotel with Bauhaus and surrealist influences, using a mixture of marble, glass, wood, leather, concrete and metal in its interiors. Brach Hotel has a wellness focus, with an indoor pool and hammam spa. The rooms feature 1930s furniture and knick-knacks from around the world, while suites on the fifth and sixth floors have terraces with 180° views over the rooftops of Paris and either a Norwegian wood hot tub or jacuzzi.

Le Meurice is one of the most famous hotels in Paris, having opened in 1815 on the rue Saint-Honoré before moving to its current home on rue de Rivoli, one of the city’s most prestigious addresses. Pablo Picasso had the reception for one of his weddings here and over 30 years, Salvador Dalí would stay for a month every year. It is just a short walk from the Eiffel Tower, Tuileries Garden, the Louvre and many other of the capital’s sights, meaning it has some great views.
