Someone said: “Yes.” Then, the happy couple strapped on their most lavish of wedding attire, strutted down an aisle, beach, or chapel in Vegas, and called themselves newlyweds. Just married couples are hopefully faced with only one dilemma after the ceremony: where should they go to enjoy their honeymoon? Fret not, as Culture Trip is here with a guide on how to plan your honeymoon to Thailand.

Where to Go

Honeymoons normally last anywhere from one to two weeks, giving newlyweds little time to explore the Land of Smiles in its entirety. In this instance, it would be best to narrow down three cities that suit your preferences. The top three cities that would best suit honeymoon itineraries include Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. Each one is equipped with an airport, making transportation both fast and convenient.

Where to Stay: Bangkok

At first glance, it may seem like the City of Angels is the last place newlyweds want to reside. However, the capital has plenty of things for you to see and do. Upon first arriving in Bangkok, newlyweds should go hand in hand to one of the city’s incredible sky bars for a celebratory drink. Admire your ring with an expensive cocktail in tow and some of the best views of the seemingly never-ending city at sky bars like Vanilla Sky, Vertigo and Moon Bar, Above Eleven, and Brewski.

After indulging in some drinks, it is time to relax and unwind at one of the capital’s many luxurious hotels. Be sure to pick one with a rooftop or infinity pool for lounging, as well as a hotel with a prime location perfect for those couples wanting to explore the City of Angels. Some of the most romantic hotels in the capital include Maitria Hotel Sukhumvit 18, Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside, and Chakrabongse Villas.

Taking a cooking class is a must-do endeavor in the Kingdom, and Bangkok is the perfect place to do so. Phuket and Chiang Mai are equipped with plenty of day trips that the capital simply cannot offer visitors, making it the ideal spot to pick up some culinary skills to take back home and try out for their new wife or husband. Though there are many cooking schools in Bangkok, those hoping for a more intimate experience may instead opt to book a cooking experience with Traveling Spoon. Traveling Spoon is a network of local hosts who allow visitors to come into their home for one-on-one, private cooking classes. With plenty of hosts to choose from around the capital, visitors cannot go wrong booking one of these chefs to spend a romantic afternoon with their new spouse learning to cook some epic Thai cuisine.

Though the city can certainly emit a grimy feel, there are plenty of places oozing with romance perfect for newlyweds to frequent. Visitors can check out one of Bangkok’s many parks for strolling, including Santiphap Park, Chatuchak Park, and Lumpini Park. After a walk, visitors may have worked up an appetite and should climb aboard one of the many dinner cruises on the Chao Phraya River. Some of the most romantic ones include Supanniga Dinner Cruise, Apsara Cruise, and the Grand Pearl. After a few nights in the capital, newlyweds should head down south to catch some rays and romantic, beachside time on the island of Phuket.

Where to Stay: Phuket

While islands like Koh Samui or Koh Tao may seem to be a bit more romantic, they are also more out of the way, making them more difficult to get to and taking up more of honeymooners’ precious time. Instead, newlyweds should catch a quick flight down to Phuket, the Pearl of the Andaman.

Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and its sheer size guarantees that there will be plenty of things to see and do. Lined with pristine beaches, stunning religious structures, and much to do both in and out of the water, Phuket is the perfect destination for those on their honeymoon.

Phuket Thailand

Honeymooners should definitely pay a visit to Phuket Town, where they can stroll down the city decorated with Sino-Portuguese architecture. There is also a road made up entirely of pink buildings, the ideal spot for a photo opportunity to show friends and family back home all the romantic festivities.

After a day in Phuket Town, visitors should take to the Andaman Sea for a day of diving or snorkeling, depending on their preference. There are plenty of stunning dive sites surrounding the island, and those super ambitious divers can even make a day trip to the Surin or Similan Islands, some of the most renowned diving spots in the world.

Those without diving certifications can instead explore the sea from its crystal-clear surface with a snorkel, mask, and fins. Other water activities couples can partake in on the island of Phuket include kayaking, kiteboarding, surfing, and paddleboarding. For a romantic evening, one of the most dreamy of resorts honeymooners should check out in Phuket is the Paresa Resort Phuket. After many days of having fun in the sun, it is time for honeymooners to head to the last destination on their itinerary: Chiang Mai.

Where to Stay: Chiang Mai

Honeymooners will end their romantic stint in the mountainous city of Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai bleeds romance with the many ruins found around town, with lush, jungle terrain surrounding the city on all sides. This is the best city for busy honeymooners to unwind in, taking advantage of the cheap spas here with full body Thai massages starting at as little as ฿150.

After treating yourselves to a massage, be sure to explore the plethora of temples found spotting the city. Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chedi Luang, and the best of all, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, are the three religious structures visitors should be sure to check out before leaving Thailand’s northern capital.

In addition to exploring temples, honeymooners should take advantage of one of the many day trips that are easily accessible from the city of Chiang Mai. One of the most popular is a trip to Elephant Nature Park, where visitors get to feed, pet, and wash the elephants in an ethical way. Those couples who are into fitness may instead opt for a cycling, kayaking, or white water rafting tour of the surrounding city. The city is also home to meditation retreats, for those couples who want to have a more spiritual experience with their new spouse.

Regardless of where they go, newlyweds are bound to have the most incredible of honeymoons in the Land of Smiles. In addition to all there is to do, couples are not going to break their banks while exploring the country, as it is incredibly affordable. So put the wedding attire away, grab a swimsuit or two and get ready to have the honeymoon of a lifetime in Thailand.
