Authentic Central Mexico
If you want to hone in on something more specific, then how about this deep-dive into the cultural heartlands of Mexico? This eight-day adventure aims to take you on a journey through the nation’s past and present, visiting a series of picturesque cities in Central Mexico to explore key historical moments, understand the cornerstones of Mexican culture and, of course, get a taste for authentic local cuisine. We start in Mexico City with a fairly similar three-day itinerary, which includes the charming cobblestone streets of Coyoacan and the pulsating Mercado San Juan. You’ll dive into ancient Mexico with a visit to the Toltec capital of Tula, as well as Teotihuacán, en route to the gorgeous city of Querétaro, where Mexico’s current constitution was passed. In nearby San Miguel de Allende you’ll take an expert cooking class, learn about the thriving local art scene and have the opportunity to buy some goodies from the local artisan market. Guanajuato, with its pretty facades and old town houses, is our final stop, but there are a couple of detours on the way. First is Dolores Hidalgo, the cradle of Mexican independence, where you’ll learn about the Cry of Dolores at the Museo de la Independencia Nacional. The second is Cuna de Tierra winery, where you’ll be treated to a sumptuous wine tasting session – the perfect place to reflect on your newfound understanding of Mexico as a place and as a people.
