Monaco occupies a pretty spot on the Mediterranean coast. With the hilly terrain come great views of the sea and principality itself, but there are also gorgeous spots on flatter ground for you to capture on camera as well. Here are our top 11 spots that should not be missed.

By the sea

Simply put, get down to sea level and enjoy the magnificent sunsets. Monaco has its very own beach – Larvotto Plage – from which you can see the sky turn pink. Or you can go in the opposite direction, west towards Cap d’Ail, for some great spots, too.

Monaco harbour

Get some great snaps of the mega yachts by heading down to Hercule harbour.

Tête de Chien

Behind Monaco, after quite a climb, you’ll reach Tête de Chien. This peak surely is one of the best places to get a panoramic view of the principality. Early morning is the best time, otherwise the Mediterranean climate will get too hot.

Monte Carlo Casino

Casino, Park

This iconic landmark was made to be photographed – it is simply stunning. Make your way to the Place du Casino for an up-close shot, heading through the small park towards the Monte Carlo Pavilions.

Fort Antoine

This is a really special corner of Monaco. A fortress turned open-air theatre boasts one of the most beautiful views of the principality and the best bit is you don’t need to hike for it. It is a circular oasis among the humdrum.

Le Rocher

You can get some splendid views of Monaco’s old town – the Rock of Monaco – from the neighbouring hillside. Jardin de l’Unesco is a favourite for this reason.

Prince's Palace

The home to the royal family of Monaco should certainly be on your list for spots to photograph. Not only is the palace immense, but the vast square in front of it lends itself well to capturing the scale of the building. It’s no surprise that the views are pretty amazing, too.

Oceanographic Museum

This is arguably one of the most impressive buildings in Monaco and perfect to set your camera in front of. The sight of it is equally impressive from the front entrance (as pictured) and from a little distance, viewing it from its side, perched impressively on cliff rocks.

The Exotic Garden

The Jardin Exotique de Monaco is not only great for photographing some really interesting cacti and succulents, but the view over the principality and neighbouring hills is incredible from here. The vibrant greens of the flora and blues of the sea and sky are particularly striking.
